Round & About

The local area

Mowbarton overlooks the Somerset Levels and is equidistant from Wells and Glastonbury both of which are steeped in historical sights and folklore.

Just two miles away is the delightful village of Wedmore and the property itself is in Mudgley, most famous for Roger Wilkins Cider Barn – a mere ten minutes walk. The Isle of Wedmore was once part of King Alfred's Royal Estate; he burnt the cakes just down the road!

Mowbarton is also just 15 minutes drive from Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. The area is famed for bird watching, with several nature reserves within ten minutes' drive. It is also very popular with cyclists and walkers, as well as garden lovers; there are many stately houses and gardens to visit in the area, some National Trust, others independent. Ten miles away is the north Somerset coast (Burnham-on-Sea/ Weston-super-Mare), with Exmoor not much further on. Longleat, Stonehenge, Yeovilton and Bath are all approximately an hour's drive away.
