our first vintage

We are now well into 2019 and I am a long way behind with news, not having updated this blog since October. Huge apologies. Pre-Christmas saw a holiday (for us for a change!) and some refurbishment and spring-cleaning in the Barn and Shepherd's Hut. Thank you, Kellie and Simon. Then the Christmas rush began with a succession of guests in both properties over the whole festive period. Our Hut guests welcomed the New Year in up at our magical picnic spot in 'Teasel Meadow', from where they said they could see 'every firework display in Somerset' (their words!).

We ourselves had an even more momentous night, sampling our first bottles of Mowbarton Estate sparkling wine. Delicious; even better than anticipated. It's the 2016 vintage which yielded 220 bottles. They haven't all been drunk (yet) but they are proving very popular. Luckily, in 2017 the vineyard produced over 1700 bottles, which should be ready in time for the start of 2020!

We also welcomed 2019 at Ham Wall to witness the splendid murmuration of starlings coming into roost - thousands of them. Every year we find we have forgotten what an extraordinary experience it is. It was our granddaughter's first time and she was transfixed! It's not too late to catch this amazing phenomenon - and we are offering a special last minute deal over the next few weeks so you can. See our rates page for details, or contact us direct.
