Time for harvest festivals!

Festival timeSummer is drawing to a close and the days are certainly getting shorter but there is still plenty to look forward to in the weeks ahead - not least because the festival season is well under way. The magnificent Flower Festival in St Mary's Church opened at the end of August while Wedmore's famous Real Ale Festival celebrated its 20th birthday during the second weekend of September. On the fourth weekend of September Wedmore Arts Festival returns to the village with a range of varied events happening between 24 and 26 September. Mowbarton is delighted to be sponsoring the first event of the Festival: the inspirational war hero Simon Weston CBE talking about his triumph over adversity. In the evening there will be a one-woman drama which asks the as yet unanswered question Where is Mrs Christie? And what really happened during the eleven days she went missing? There's also music, film, poetry, puppets, a literary discussion and a walking workshop for budding photographers. Full details can be found on the WAF website.

Once that is over we will still have Wells Food Festival and Wells Festival of Literature on the horizon. Life is certainly never dull in Somerset! And when we have finished attending other festivals, it will be time to celebrate our own harvest festival at Mowbarton when we pick the grapes, probably towards the end of October. We had to forego the pleasures of  a harvest supper last year, but with any luck we will make up for it in 2021. Watch this space...
