Days Out

A stay at Mowbarton would not be complete without visiting Glastonbury and/ or Wells, both steeped in historical sights and folklore. You can see Glastonbury Tor from one of the Barn bedrooms (although the reverse is not true!),  Glastonbury Abbey is a fascinating site, and there are all sorts of special events there during the summer. Not more than 30 minutes drive away is Worthy Farm, the site of Glastonbury Festival. Wells is famous for its CathedralBishop's Palace, the bell-ringing swans, a twice-weekly market and beautiful architecture. The Literary Festival, and several other festivals. There is always plenty to do in Wells

For aficionados of shopping Clarks Village is just down the road or you might prefer Kilver Court Designer Village - where you can also see one of Somerset's loveliest gardens. But then if you love gardens, you really will be spoilt for choice. HestercombeEast LambrookHauser &Wirth ...

At our feet lies the beautiful area known as the Vale of Avalon with many of its nature reserves quite literally on our doorstep (well, within five minutes drive!). Which is why this part of Somerset is famed for bird watching and wildlife, Well worth trying for a fascinating day out is Somerset Birdwatching Holidays . The area is also very popular with cyclists and walkers, with a brand new cycle hire place just outside Wedmore. They will even deliver your bikes to you at Mowbarton if you like! Perhaps the two most favourite sites for our guests (both about a 20-minute drive away) are Cheddar Gorge  featuring the famous Caves of course as well as the Gorge itself  - a beautiful place for a walk and to explore. And even closer to Mowbarton is the Wonderful Wookey Hole. We really are spoilt for choice.

Of the many local National Trust properties Barrington Court is often mentioned, as are Lytes Cary and Montacute. But there are many others...

Ten miles away is the north Somerset coast (Burnham-on-Sea), with Exmoor not much further on. LongleatStonehenge and Bath are all approximately an hour's drive away. For air enthusiasts, Yeovilton is just 20 miles away. In fact there are so many attractions locally, it's difficult to choose which ones to mention! So here are a few some of our guests have praised:

The Mendip ski centre which is about 25 minutes drive from Mowbarton.  Weston Windsport apparently the blokarting is great fun! Puxton Park - great for children and about 30 mins drive. More sedate - but also wonderful for children - is Noah's Ark Zoo which is about 50 minutes drive.
